Show Me... Time Team Behind The Scenes

November 24 2004

Show Me has been on a special mission - a visit to a Time Team dig. (This is such a great job!) We know loads of Show Me surfers are fans of Tony, Phil, Carenza and the rest of the crew, so here, just for you, is our behind-the-scenes guide to Channel 4's Time Team.

We've got the inside story on the people, the ideas, the technology, the digging and the fun behind Britain's favourite archaeology programme.

Digging - Time Team Style

How do they dig those great big holes?

Shows an aerial photo of a village and some fields. Several swirled patterns are visible on the grass.

How Do They Know Where To Dig?

How come they always seem to find something?

Phil The Flint Knapper

Find out why these two archaeologists are sticking their bottoms in the air with such elegance and grace.

Shows a photo of a man and a woman looking at some wood. They're both bending over with their bottoms in the air.

Shows a photo of a man with a blue shirt, glasses and grey hair.

Painting Pictures Of The Past

An interview with Victor Ambrus, Time Team's historical illustrator.

Football, Frisbees and Fun…

Time Team isn't ALL about work. Rather a lot of eating and playing goes on too.

Shows a photo of several people kicking a ball around a playing field on very green grass.

Shows a photo of two children, a boy and a girl, in white school shirts, standing in a field.

Visitors - Kids, Reporters, RAF...

It wasn't just Show Me visiting the Time Team dig - there were all sorts of people nosing around...

Are Time Team Allowed To Dig Wherever They Like?

What's to stop them digging up your granny's prize roses?

Shows a digger bucket and a heap of earth.

Shows an image of a Spitfire plane, flying against a blue sky.

3D Graphics - Bringing Objects To Life

An interview with Raysan, the 3D man, who tells us just how cool pictures like this one are created.

What Exactly Is 'Geo Phys'?

It's all down to magnets... and lots of pacing up and down by hardworking legs like these.

Shows a photo of a pair of legs, wearing grey trousers and green wellies, walking across grass.

Shows a photo of a woman in a garden, holding a spade. She has long blonde hair and is wearing blue and grey.

When Time Team Goes Home

What happens next? Do they leave open trenches scattered around the UK?

Carenza Lewis lets you in on more trade secrets.

That's all folks, your guide to Time Team, behind the scenes.

If you've enjoyed reading about Time Team and you're aged between 8 and 16, how about joining the Young Archaeologists' Club? There are branches across the UK and you get to take part in real archaeological digs.
