About

Did you know that until 1814 the river Thames in London would occasionally freeze solid? Our friends at the Museum of London have made this short video to show you all of the fantastic things that took place when the river froze.

Things to think about:

  • Why do you think the river Thames hasn’t frozen since 1815?
  • Can you imagine what sort of things would happen on the Thames if it froze over this year?
  • Why don’t you try and write a short story or draw a picture inspired by this video.

Teacher notes

The video plays through YouTube and is just under 3 minutes long.

This video is a lovely addition to a lesson on the history of London or would be a great jumping off point for a creative writing or artistic activity.
