    • Situated on the dramatic seafront of Europe’s oldest fishing beach, Hastings Contemporary champions modern and contemporary art with a bold and ambitious exhibition programme, showing works by historically important and internationally renowned artists, and emerging practitioners, as well as exploring the rich cultural history of artists from the South East. Hastings Contemporary hosts several exhibitions a year, plus an exciting array of talks, workshops, community events and live music. The building was designed by HAT Projects and completed in 2012. A sensitive response to its context of the fishing beach, listed net huts and medieval Old Town, the gallery has received a number of architectural awards including a RIBA National Award, Civic Trust Award, Sussex Heritage Trust Award and reached the mid list for the Stirling Prize. The gallery café, Boatyard, overlooks the fishing beach, has an outside sun terrace and offers panoramic views of the coastline. Boatyard serves a menu built around local produce and sustainable ingredients, with fish landed by boats you can see out of the window. Boatyard is open from 11am-5pm, Tuesdays to Sundays, as part of general admission to the gallery. Hastings Contemporary members can bring up to 3 free guests to Boatyard any visit. The shop stocks a broad selection of books for all tastes and ages relating to art, the history of Modern British and contemporary art, art theory, and guides for personal artistic practice, as well as a bespoke range of gifts, eco-friendly stationery, postcards and products related to current exhibitions. Merchandise is selected based on ethical and sustainable criteria as well as aesthetic appeal. You can visit the shop anytime without paying admission to the gallery. #HastingsContemporary #ArtOnSea
