Tamar's Viking Saga: Land

April 07 2005

Another wonderful Viking saga... this one was sent in by Show Me surfer Tamar. Thank you Tamar, it's great.

Shows a photo of a man dressed as a Viking warrior, in chain mail and helmet and carrying an axe.

Don't get on the wrong side of this modern Viking warrior - just look at that axe!

We've published Tamar's story just as it was sent in...

'1 day a viking said i will go see this land all are talking about with my mates sakval, shedwam, weda, gia and me, so we loaded all the cargo and then we got on and set of farther, farther and farther until a whale swam write up to us and took a friend of me, it was shedwam.

we saw a blurgh in the distance but it was a hungry gull circling the cargos cent. then sakval saw a polar bear he said i will go punch it, the rest agreed but they did not go, only sakval , he was caght eaten and dead.

then gia saw a mist indeed it was a land . they got of the boat they realised it was called Greenland and they setteled there all was happy.'

This modern-day Viking lookalike isn't quite as fierce!

Shows a photo of a small boy wearing Viking clothes and holding a helmet.

The British Museum, London
The National Maritime Museum, London
Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery
Jorvik Viking Centre, York
Maes Howe Chambered Cairn, Orkney (here you can see Viking graffiti carvings - although rumour has it that some of it is a bit rude!)
Northlands Viking Centre, Caithness
Armagh County Museum, County Armagh
