Show Me Surfers With Lots To Say...

March 23 2005

Even more of you have been using the Get In Touch page lately, which is fantastic. We always love to hear what you have to say. Here are some of your messages....

Shows a child's felt-tip picture of Gnasher on a sunny hillside with a giant bone next to him.

Spencer sent us this fantastic picture of Gnasher. Spencer's 7. He got the idea for his picture from an exhibition about Beano illustrations at Hove Museum.

Next up is Louise - or 'Louise the Reporter' as she'd like to be known. Louise has been reading our news stories and sending in her opinions. She's also been nagging me to get a move on with this page. So here we go...

Louise wrote in about our story on underwater archaeology, wondering if shipwrecks still happen. Sadly, they do. But new technologies mean it's far easier to predict storms and to avoid obstacles than it used to be.

This means that shipwrecks don't happen as often as they did in Tudor times, when the ship in our news story sank.

This fearsome skull picture was sent in by 12-year-old Jamie. Thanks Jamie!

Shows a child's drawing of a rhino skull with the word 'Rhino' at bottom right.

Louise also wrote in about our story on whale strandings. She wanted to know if whales strand themselves.

Tricky question Louise. Scientists think that sometimes, if the animals get very weak or very confused, they swim ashore by mistake and then get stuck. So, in a way, they do but not on porpoise. Sorry, purpose.

Louise we love your messages. If you'd like to be a real reporter for Show Me ask a grown-up if you can send us an e-mail with some contact details and we'll arrange an assignment for you. That goes for any other budding writers too!

Shows a child's drawing of a mum, dad and two children with two chairs in the foreground and a computer on a table in the middle.

This lovely picture of 6-year-old Hendrike and family visiting the Geffrye Museum in London is full of detail. It looks as if they all really enjoyed their visit.

Kirsty Clarke also wrote in about the whale story. She wrote to say she was imressed with the story. Thank you Kirsty!

Charleigh read it too:

'hi im charleigh i think its horrible to do waling what can i do?'

Nathan wrote in to say he's really good at skateboard tricks. The whole office is jealous Nathan - we can hardly even stand up on a skateboard. (On our own that is, not all on the same board of course...)

Amy sent a very happy message:

'Hi what you doing its Amy nice to meet you. I love these games on show me there so Cool!!!!
Can you put more games about the romans.
BYE BYE!!! see you later.'

Silas is our youngest artist this week - he's 3 years old. Silas drew this very colourful picture of his visit to the Booth Museum. It's wonderful Silas - thank you.

Shows a child's felt-tip drawing - an abstract mass of colours.

These messages made us smile too:

'Hiya my name is julie galloway i come from scotland and i think this is a cool web site.'

'to show and tell. thank you for the websit from mary.'

'Dear all. My name is Chloe and I have just had my 7th birthday. My Mummy got me for my birthday the crayon maker it is really good. I have made lots of funny crayons and good colours. I love drawing and colouring, love Chloe B.

Why not send in a picture Chloe?

It's not just kids who mail us, sometimes we get messages from grown-ups too. This teacher seems to like the site too:

'What a fantastic web site. We have just finished the ancient greeks. Wish I had found your website first! Next project is movement of the body in art.'

Shows three sketches of birds and the words 'My favourite thing is the smell which cannot be seen but is worth noting, although the bones are stinky'.

Another grown-up - Chloe Bell visited the Booth Museum too and sent these bird sketches. Can you read what she says about the smell?!

Lastly, lots of you just wrote in to say hi. So, hello to Toni, Lewis, Katie, Alex, Sophie, Carla Louise and the many surfers who didn't add their names to their messages.

Keep writing in - it's great hearing from you.
