Show Me Shouts

December 20 2007

As usual Show Me readers have been really busy sending us lots of their comments, ideas and jokes. Here are some of the latest.

One Show Me surfer asked: "hi did u get evacuated?". Hmm. We're not that old thanks very much!

We do know grandparents who were children during the Second World War and were evacuated from towns and cities to go and live in the countryside. They all have amazing stores to tell. Why not ask around and see if you can find some evacuees to talk to?

This game from Tyne and Wear Museums tells you all about being an evacuee. It's especially good if you need to find stuff out for school.

We don't just get comments from kids, here's one from a teacher:

"Have just discovered your website through a 'Teachers' magazine. What a find! Brilliant resources! my Year 3 class will love the History activities. A great way of museums reaching out to today's children!"

A couple of jokes were sent in too, and for loads more you can check out Oxford University Museum of Natural History's jokes page.

"what did the window say to the door? why are you screaming im the one with the pain"

"Knock Knock. Who's There? Boo. Boo Who? It's only a joke you don't have to cry."

Keep them coming, we all love a good chuckle at Show Me…

We also want to say hello to Sophie and Zoe Pratt and Bruce Rava, who wrote in saying nice things. We like that :-)

Natalie wrote in to say, "hi my name is natalie i really like this website i found it at school im in year six and i would love a reaply thanks Natalie"

Thank you Natalie, it's always great to hear we're doing a good job.

Someone asked, "was it fun beeing roman".

Hmmm, that's a good question. Of course we can't know for sure, because the Romans lived so long ago, but we have learnt a lot about them.

Some Romans were very rich and would have had luxurious houses, but many people in the Roman Empire were slaves and had to do exactly what their masters told them to do.

Our Romans section has plenty of information about this ancient empire and what it was like to live in it.

"Hi my name is Neelam Shah i was looking through your website and found it really interesting because you have a lot going on and as well as the site being educational with history it is also a fun way to learn."

"I was also wondering if there were any history competitions for 15 year olds and over for anyone including me to enter because i am keen to enter one. Thank You, Neelam Shah(15)"

The Young Archaeologist of the Year Award is a fantastic competition for those who like to get hands on with their history.

It's open to all children aged 8-16 who live in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. You just need to like history and archaeology.

There's also a great drawing competition that's open for anyone to enter until January 18 2008.

The winner will see their picture on the side of the Tower of London - see our story to read all about it and find out how to enter.
