Rosie's Vicious Velociraptor Story

February 23 2007

Rosie Scott, who's nine, has just sent in this amazing story about dinosaurs. It's so realistic it makes you think you could actually be there!

It's told from the point of view of a Velociraptor Mongoliensis and here's how it begins…

"I saw an odd looking brightly coloured dinosaur suddenly appear. It looked like a female Protoceratops.

I sneaked quietly behind a palm tree and lurked silently around there for a while.

Suddenly, I saw a piece of 'flesh' of the Protoceratops fall half off, revealing a small bipedal dinosaur, which now looked like a Secernosaurus.

I had hunted Secernosaurus before, they were dim. I had a chance of a meal.

I dashed behind the dead Protoceratops and peeped out. The Secernosaurus was hauling out a tiny dinosaur, probably a Scutellosaurus. I didn't know anything but the instinct to hunt.

The Secernosaurus looked round and saw me. It's reactions were odd. The Secernosaurus opened the Scutellosaurus up, revealing a thing like an oddly shaped piece of wood. It pointed it at me.

I ran behind the Protoceratops. As I ran, I heard a deafening blast, and something tiny whizzed past my tail.

Drawing out my killing claw, I silently soared on to the Protoceratops' back. Looking down on top! of the Secernosaurus, I planned where I would strike.

Gathering all my strength up, I leapt down on to a soft warm body.

Or at least that was what I should have leapt on.

When I had been leaning back, it must have scampered off. I lifted my head up and gave a hollowing cry."

Thanks for the story Rosie - we love scary dino tales like this one.

You can find out more about all sorts of dinosaurs like the ones in Rosie's story on the Natural History Museum's dinosaur pages.

The Show Me dinosaur section is another great way of finding out about these fascinating beasts.

If you've got a story of when dinosaurs roamed the Earth why don't you send it to Show Me? We try to publish as many of your messages and stories as we can.
