New Poems From Show Me Surfers

September 14 2006

Poetry is in the air at Show Me this week - we have some fantastic poems for you, sent in by Show Me surfers.

First up is a gorgeous poem from 9-year old Lia:

Screenshot from My Imaginary City showing house on the edge of a lake.

The Lake Behind My House
In swims fishes of all different Kinds.
I see the lake everyday in the morning,
I see it through my blinds.

The Lake behind my house
I can hear it ripple at night
It glitters in the sun shine
Oh! What a lovely sight.

The lake behind my house,
It runs past my lovely tree
I just love the lake behind my house,
Why can't you see!

Lia's beautiful poem inspired us to go and have a go on Tate's great My Imaginary City game. Do you like our lakeside house (above)?

Eia from Liverpool is in artistic mood and has written about getting creative:

I love to draw
a doggie with big paw

I love to paint
a bible and a saint

I love to glue
a moon and star that is blue

I love making art
that is what I heart

If you're arty like Eia, you'll love Show Me's Big Draw topic page, which includes lots of online drawing games and workshops as well as some ideas to inspire you!

David is also from Liverpool. He's sent us a lovely poem about a cuddly friend:

Old teddy bear with beige fur and a rust-coloured ribbon round its neck.

MY TEDDY

I have a teddy that I love very much. He is cute to look at and soft to touch.

He is a monky and brown and red. I like to cuddle him when I go to bed.

Read about the teddy bear in the photo in our story Meet Lloyd... The Bear With A Winning Name.

A big THANK YOU to Lia, Eia and David for sending in their poems!

If you'd like to explore more poems, find out about how you can become a poet and maybe enter a competition or two, check out The Children's Poetry Archive and The Children's Poetry Bookshelf websites.

That's all for now but we bet there are more poets out there - so Get In Touch! We'd love to publish more poems by our talented readers.
