The Bowes Museum, County Durham

Dress up or mess up with fun activities for all the family throughout the year. Also enjoy the healthy options children's menu in Café Bowes and pocket money toys in the shop.

BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead

There's lots of amazing art to see and you can make art of your own! Check out Busy Bs - BALTIC's free drop-in art workshops for families every Saturday and Sunday from 2-4pm.

Seven Stories: The Centre for the Childrens Book, Newcastle upon Tyne

This museum is all about children's books. They've collected work by lots of authors and illustrators for exhibitions, including some by JK Rowling, Roald Dahl and Jacqueline Wilson.

There are also lots of fun things to do at Seven Stories where you can meet book characters, get crafty, play and listen to fab stories.

Killhope The North of England Lead Mining Museum, Upper Weardale, Co. Durham

Beamish - The North of England Open Air Museum, Co. Durham. A visit to Beamish is like stepping back in time. There's nearly two hundred years of life to experience in this three hundred acre 'living' Museum including: sweet making in the Sweet Factory, horses working in The Town and lessons in the Village School.
