What's National Science Week 2006 All About?

Stop Press! National Science Week is now officially over, but the science goes on...

Read on to find out about Show Me's science celebrations and our scientific giveaway.

This year, Science Week is all about what's happening to our planet because of all the energy we use.

Celebrities from Prime Minister Tony Blair to world class sportsman Colin Jackson are "clicking for the climate" and promising to do their bit to use less energy.

Colin is swapping a plane journey for a train journey.

Meanwhile, Tony's turning down the heating at 10 Downing Street, and energy-saving light bulbs are replacing the old-fashioned, energy-hungry ones.

Here at Show Me, we are promising to turn off the lights when we leave a room. What about you? Can you make a pledge to try and use less energy?

There are loads of Science Week events going on at the moment, and you can find out about them here.

While you're thinking about what to do, have some fun playing science games in The Energy Info Zone.

Our special collection of games for Science Week is another must for this week.

And then you can visit our Science and Technology section, before heading off to find out about the Natural World.

Phew! When you've done all that, why not write and tell us about what you did to celebrate Science Week? We've got five copies of What Makes Me, Me? by Robert Winston to give away to the first five of you who get in touch with a Science Week story!

Shows author Robert Winston smiling and holding his book What Makes Me Me?

What Makes Me, Me? is a fun book with lots of info and quizzes, which will explain all about how you got to be the person you are.

The book won the Aventis Prize for Science Books Junior Prize in 2005. The copies we'll be sending out are all signed by the author, Robert Winston, holding the book in this picture.
