How to make an Ancient Roman snake bracelet

July 30 2010

This snake bracelet is great if you're doing the Ancient Romans at school and it's easy to make too.

You will need:
Card, pipe cleaner, glue, tinfoil and a permanent black felt-tip pen.

If you only have tinfoil - use that to make your snake shape.

Instructions:
Cut a strip of card a bit longer than a pipe cleaner. Fold the card in half and stick the pipe cleaner in the middle to make the card bendy. Make the shape of a snake's head and tail and stick them to the card. Wrap the card in tin foil. Then use the permanent black marker pen to draw a scale pattern and give eyes to the snake's head.

Here's a real snake bracelet design from the Petrie Museum online collection.

Why not visit the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and have a look at their collection?

You can find more Ancient Roman jewellery on the British Museum's website in its Young explorers' section.

One idea is to print off the larger image of the Jet pendant and turn that into a necklace.

Good luck with your snake bracelet and don't forget to
send us a photo!
