Summer fun: dotty trees spotted in London

August 07 2009

The trees at the Southbank Centre beside the River Thames in London have gone all dotty!

So what's going on..?

The dots are like ones the artist Yayoi Kusama uses in the exhibition Walking in My Mind at the Hayward Gallery.

The Hayward Gallery is one of the buildings that make up the Southbank Centre.

Walking in My Mind is about what goes on in the minds of artists.

Sometimes this can mean happy thoughts and sometimes this can mean feelings and ideas that are sad and upsetting.

The exhibition is full of amazing works of art and definitely worth visiting if you get a chance. Please note: the Hayward Gallery does say that some of the works are just for grown-ups and not suitable for children.

Walking in My Mind is on until September 6 2009 but don't worry if you can't get to see it because the Hayward Gallery have got a short film about the exhibition on YouTube.

Warning: the film does contain what looks like a dead cat as one of the exhibits on display, so don't watch it if this would upset you.

Here's something else we love at the Southbank Centre.

It's called Appearing Rooms by Jeppe Hein and is made up of 'rooms' of jets of water.

You can stand right inside like the people are doing in the photo above - it's a laugh.

Have you seen any unusual and fun public art such as the dotty trees and watery Appearing Rooms this summer holidays?

Got a photo to send us? Get in touch! We can't wait to see what you've seen.
