Competition: Want To Be A History TV Presenter?

October 20 2008

STOP PRESS ... THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED ... STOP PRESS ... THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED ... STOP PRESS ... STOP PRESS ... STOP PRESS ...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to present your very own history show, just like Konnie Huq, Bill Bailey or Dan Snow?

Well, thanks to our friends at English Heritage, you could do just that.

They are looking for a Young History Presenter of the Future, for their online TV channel English Heritage TV (EHTV), and you could be in with the chance to win.

The competition is open to history buffs between ten and sixteen years old.

All you have to do is send in a two-minute video of yourself or a 400-word script with a photo, talking about a favourite moment or person in history.

Your script or film could cover huge events like the Roman invasion or the Battle of Hastings or smaller ones like a moment in your school's history.

Shows a photo of a woman dressed as Queen Victoria talking to two young girls.

Shows a young boy with blond hair interviewing a man in a black uniform with gold and red trimmings.

You could talk about anyone from Queen Victoria or Florence Nightingale to your own Grandad. As long as you're telling a good story, that's what counts.

Ten finalists will get the chance to go to a presenting master-class to get brilliant training and top-tips from TV historian Dan Snow (the one up above, in the field). They will also get to record their very own professional show-reel to help the judges make their decision.

Judge Dan Snow said: "We are looking for videos or scripts which reflect a true love of history as well as a freshness and originality which will make it relevant to today's audiences... I am crazy about history and love presenting, so I can't wait to find someone who shares both my passions."

Thousands of people will watch the winning reel on EHTV and the winner will get the chance to work with top TV production company Ballista to present a special one-off programme.

So what are you waiting for? It's the prize of a lifetime and the perfect half-term project. Here's the EHTV website again for more information. Good luck!
