We Love Launchball! Will You Master It?

October 09 2007

We've just discovered a very addictive new game from the Science Museum called Launchball. We love it.. read on to find out why.

It starts simply enough but soon gets fiendishly difficult - but you just can't stop playing.

If you do get stuck on a level there are hints to help you along the way. Not that we needed those of course ;-)

You've got to launch a ball and get it through an obstacle course to pop it into the hole at the end.

A range of gadgets help you along the way - fans, batteries, torches, steam generators and more.

You get to learn about the science behind them as you go along.

Some of the facts are amazing - did you know that the temperature of the area around a lightning strike is around 30,000 degrees Celsius?

That's five times hotter than the sun. Yikes.

You might have to bounce the ball into the hole using a big spring or use the fan to blow it onto a conveyor belt. But things like conveyor belts won't work without power so you need to work out how to make it go!

Every level has different problems to work on and it's really satisfying when you solve it.

Sometimes it takes lots of tries to find the solution, but that's what scientists do, they try out different things to discover what works and what doesn't.

There's a great option in the game where you can design your own Launchball level and share it with your friends.

Why not send us your creation? See if you can stump our brainy journalists.

Have fun... launch Launchball!
