CBBC SMart Star To Judge Our Gunpowder Plot Competition!

October 16 2006

STOP PRESS: The competition is now closed - we'll let you know who the winners are soon!

It's almost November 5th... Bonfire Night!

After the huge success of last year's Gunpowder Plot competition, Show Me and The Parliamentary Archives are launching a brand new competition for 2006.

Our favourite CBBC SMart show star, Kirsten O'Brien, has kindly agreed to be one of our judges! Read on to find out how to enter...

This year we want you to send us pictures of what Bonfire Night means to you.

Maybe you've watched a fantastic display of fireworks at a Bonfire Night party, held a sparkler or seen a Guy being burned on the bonfire?

You could draw you and your friends shivering in the dark, the bonfire burning, some whizzing rockets, the sausages sizzling... use your imagination!

You also need to tell us the names of three of the gunpowder plotters.

Hint: you can find out more about Bonfire Night traditions and the gunpowder plotters on our special Gunpowder Plot website.

You can use anything you like to make your picture - pencils, pens, paint, collage - you could even do it digitally on your computer.

You just have to be able to post it or email it to us.

There are four age groups this year:
* 4-7 years
* 8-11 years
* 12-14 years
* 15 years and over (mums, dads, big brothers and big sisters can all enter too!)

The prize is a visit to the Palace of Westminster in London, in January 2007. This is where Parliament meets - find out more about the history of Parliament on Show Me's Gunpowder Plot website.

To see what visiting the Palace of Westminster is like, take a look at last year's winners' day .

We'll also publish a selection of our favourite entries on Show Me.

The closing date for entries is November 30 2006, so get to work!

Here's how to enter:

Post or email your bonfire night picture to the address below. As well as your picture, send us:

* Your first name and surname
* Your age on November 30 2005
* Your address and a contact telephone number
* The names of three gunpowder plotters.

Post your entries to:

Gunpowder Plot Competition
24 Hour Museum
PO Box 3470
Brighton
BN1 1DA

...or email them to: showandtell@show.me.uk

Here's the boring (but important!) legal stuff:

* Receipt will be acknowledged, but entries cannot be returned after being judged.
* A panel appointed by Parliamentary Archives and Show Me will judge shortlisted entries. The judges' decision will be final, and no further correspondence will be entered into about their decision.
* The prize consists of a visit to the Palace of Westminster for the winner and an accompanying adult. The Parliamentary Archives will pay reasonable travel expenses.
* By entering this competition you are agreeing that we have the right to publish your artwork.

Good Luck! We can't wait to see your entries...
