Many years ago a writer called Edith Nesbit wrote a story about some children who lived next to a steam railway. That story became very famous and generations of children have grown up reading it.
The story is called 'The Railway Children'. Why don't you try to borrow a copy from the library?
Not only is it a very good read, it lets you imagine just what those trains must have been like.
There have been two films made of the book too, one in 2000, one in 1972. You could rent one on video.
The 2000 version of the Railway Children was filmed at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex.
Did you know that there are over one hundred steam railways or steam engine museums in the UK?
Thomas The Tank Engine tours around lots of them over the summer, perhaps your younger brother or sisters would like to meet him.
Look at the Places To Go page for a website that will tell you where your nearest steam museum or railway is.
