Space games: celebrate the International Year of Astronomy 2009

July 01 2009

2009 is the International Year of Astronomy (that's space science to you and me) and also the 40th anniversary of the Apollo Moon landing - the first manned mission to land on the Moon.

Maybe one day, you'll get your chance to go into space...

Till then, how about playing some cosmic space games from science museums, centres and organisations round the UK?

Here's Orby from Eureka, the National Children's Museum in Halifax.

Help Orby launch her landing pod over 3 hills to get to Eureka in Blast Off!

Showing a game with orange sky and green hills. A space pod is flying over the hill.

Showing the Asteroid Defence game. Instructions on how to play are next to a zooming red rocket. The moon is on the right of the screen above a yellow 'start' button.

How about
Glasgow Science Centre's games?

Their Asteroid Defence game is brilliant.

Can you hold your nerve and blast those asteroids before they hit your space ship?

Stay out of this world with
Time Twins on the physics.org website.

Feeling spaced out?

When you're done fighting those pesky aliens, you'll find
lots of other games to play at Planet Science.

Showing a game with a fiery maze for the scientist character to get through and collect samples along the way.

The Science Museum has a great game called
Martin's Maze.

Help Martin get ready to explore different planets and collect samples along the way.
