Roald Dahl Day 2010: competition and make and do

September 07 2009

What are you doing to celebrate Roald Dahl Day 2010? It's on September 13 (the date of Roald Dahl's birthday).

Showing a make and do green crocodile with white pointy teeth and green painted bubble wrap for the body.

Why not make our Dahl-inspired enormous crocodile?

There are prizes up for grabs too - more on those later...

You will need:
green card / bubble wrap / a black felt pen tip / white paper or card for the teeth / a ruler, a pencil, a rubber and scissors / glue / green paint.

1. Draw your crocodile out on your green paper in pencil first just in case you make a mistake.

Use your ruler to help you and start with a rectangle shaped box for the crocodile's body.

Draw a shorter rectangular box either side to help you with the tail and head.

Go over your pencil crocodile with the felt tip pen and draw a dot for an eye.

2. Paint green paint onto the bumpy side of the bubble wrap you've got - make it the same size as the body of your crocodile.

Then place the bubble wrap paint side down on the crocodile's main section of body and press gently.

This is how the body of the crocodile will look (see photo).

3. Let the paint dry and then cut the crocodile out.

4. Cut out some small triangle shapes from the white paper for teeth and glue them on.

Our crocodile was from the make and do activities in Usborne's Animal things to make and do.
