Christmas Poo Decorations

December 15 2008

The Natural History Museum has got some very eco-friendly Christmas decorations and goodies for Christmas 2008.

Photo showing a 3-D Christmas decorations: a red paper star and a white paper star. There is also a circular label with the picture of an elephant on it to show the stars have been made from elephant dung.

Here are the star decorations. There are also baubles and Christmas trees and all are made from 100% recycled elephant dung.

The elephant poo is collected from conservation parks and all germs and smells are taken out.

As it's Christmas, you can even get reindeer poo in a box - or rather a little Christmas tree grown in reindeer poo.

The reindeer dung is taken from UK zoos and safari parks. Again, all germs and smells are removed.

Want to know why reindeer poo is so good for growing things? The Natural History Museum will tell you.

Photo showing a salt dough reindeer face Christmas decoration hung on a Christmas tree. The reindeer has two black eyes and a black nose and looks like it's smiling. Lights are twinkling on the tree in the background.

This got us thinking here at Show Me about what we could do for a 'greener' Christmas...

And with help from the
National Portrait Gallery, we've come up with easy peasy salt dough Christmas decorations you can make at home.

Here's a reindeer we made earlier from salt dough.

Good luck with those decorations - don't forget to ask a grown-up to help you. We'd love to see your efforts, so please get in touch.
