War Artists

Artists have always found war fascinating. Their paintings, drawings, sculptures and photos tell us a lot about life at the time and what war was like.

Perhaps they teach us more about war than history books are able to do.

During World War Two over three hundred people were asked to be official war artists for Britain.

Imagine you're an official war artist. We'd like you to paint or draw a picture about the war.

You choose the subject. It could be the Spitfires, the gas masks, the ration books or the Anderson shelters. Maybe the nurses or secret agents inspire you.

Perhaps someone in your family has told you about their time in the war? Their story might make a good picture.

Whatever you choose, we'd love to see the results - if you post or e-mail them in to us, we'll publish any that take our fancy.
