Is It A Plate Or An Animal?

Does this
lion look scary to
you?

Animals can be funny, scary, patterned or plain. They can be cute and furry or big and ugly. Animals are great for artwork ideas. Here we show you how to turn a paper plate into a wildlife work of art.

We've made a lion mask and a jellyfish puppet to show you. You don't have to copy ours - these are just ideas to start you off.

For the lion you will need:

A paper plate
An old magazine
Glue
Scissors
Tissue paper
Paint or felt tips.

Step-by-step lion -

First, go through the magazine and tear out any yellowy-brown pictures. Tear them into small scraps.

Now stick the scraps onto the plate. The messier they are, the better they will look.

Tear or cut your tissue paper into short strips, then glue them around the side of the plate to look like a mane.

Leave the plate to dry for a while.

Now draw the lion's face.

Is he a friendly lion or a cross lion?

To make a handle, cut a strip out of the second paper plate and tape it to the back of your lion.

Step-by-step jellyfish

For the jellyfish you will need:

A paper plate
Sticky tape
Scissors
Glue
Glitter
Tissue paper.

Fold your paper plate in half and then cut along the fold.

Put aside one half for now. (You will need it later so keep it safe.)

Tear half of your tissue paper into scraps.

Glue the scraps onto the half plate, the messier the better.

Now dab lots of glue on top of the paper and sprinkle on your glitter. When the glue dries it will glisten, making the jellyfish sparkle.

Leave the plate to dry for a while.

Cut the rest of the tissue paper into long strips and glue them to the back of the plate, so they hang down.

For the handle, cut the curved top off the saved half of paper plate, so that you are left with a strip of plate. Tape the strip to the back of the jellyfish plate, like ours in the picture, and there you have your handle!

What a beautiful jellyfish!
