Ciara's Waterlilies

Show Me surfer Ciara, who is 9, has written a gorgeous poem for us which makes us feel like we're lying in the sun at the edge of a pond full of lilies:

Photo of a waterlily flower and leaves

THE GREEN WATER LILLIES

The green water lilies sitting on the pond,
As a spraying light of flowers surround it.
The sky reflects on the waters edge,
And the hot breeze flows in its own way.
Smoothly and gently it moves around.
Helping the Lilly to live a beautiful life.

Ciara's poem also reminds us of some beautiful paintings by the French artist Claude Monet, who loved to paint waterlilies.

The National Gallery in London has lots of his paintings, including The Water-Lily Pond, which Monet painted in 1899.

You can see a larger version of the painting on the National Gallery's website.

You can even zoom into the painting.

(It might take a minute or two to load but it's worth the wait - you're so close you can even see brushstrokes in the paint!)
