    • Myths are full of monsters that are mash-ups of many different creatures. The minotaur is part man and part bull. Sphinxes are part woman, part lion and sometimes part bird too.

      Then there's the chimera, a fearsome fire-breathing combination of goat, lion and snake. You can see the hero Bellerophon slaying the chimera on another mythological mash-up, Pegasus, in a mosaic from Lullingstone Roman Villa.
