    Museum's Description
    • Many of you probably have a piggy bank at home - but did you know where they first came from? Well, many have been found on the island of Java in Indonesia. This one is over 500 years old. Pigs were associated with wealth, so they were the perfect choice for keeping your money safe.

      Things to think about...
      • Can you think of any other animals associated with wealth?
      • How did they get these associations?
      • Do you think piggy banks are practical?
      • Where would you put large sums of money?
